A Jackson woman wants to set the record straight after being accused of driving past an injured man bleeding in the street.

She tells News 10's Cryss Walker she was the first to stop and call for help.

Natisha Johnson says she found a man seriously injured in the middle of the street last Thursday and did her best to get him help.

“I was leaving out for work and as I approached the stop sign at the corner on Second and Biddle it was a person in the middle of the street, they was kneeled down,” Johnson said.

“All I seen was a lot of blood.”

The encounter was caught on Anthony Donoho's home security camera, a nearby neighbor.

Donoho told News 10 many drivers passed the man before someone stopped to call for help, but the mother of two is telling a different story.

“I pull up next to them to see what's wrong so I rolled down the window and I'm yelling, ‘Aye! Are you alright? Are you ok?” Johnson explained.

“My fear kicked in like what if somebody's out here and they attacked him, what if I get out and I get attacked? So upon pulling off I did call 911 for help.”

Johnson says she dialed emergency three times and was so distraught by what she saw she left work early.

“My supervisor at work he recommended that I go home,” Johnson told Cryss Walker.

“He sent me home because after going through that and seeing all that I wasn't even in my right mind.”

Jackson Police told News 10 the man suffered from a self-inflicted wound and was transported to Henry Ford Allegiance Hospital.

“When I spoke with the 911 dispatcher they said that I was the first person that made the call,” Johnson continued.

“The first person that found that person in the street, so I didn't just drive off. I actually did get that person help.”

News 10 reached out to the Jackson Police for an update on the man's condition.

We'll let you know when we hear back.
