The Lansing School District is invited the public to take a trip down memory lane on Thursday, Aug. 22 by walking through the former Lansing Eastern High School building.

Superintendent Yvonne Camaal Canu lead a ceremonial walk at 6:30 p.m., starting at the new athletic fields and heading over to the new Eastern High School, the former Pattengill Academy on Marshall Street, for a ribbon-cutting ceremony and tours.

"This will be a great day of celebration for the Lansing School District and everyone in the city of Lansing," Caamal Canul said, in a press release.

Sparrow Health System purchased the former high school property in 2016 for nearly $2.5 million.

The district invested $14 million in the Pattengill building to feature new biochemistry labs, classrooms fitted with the latest learning technology and furniture and a new gym, according to a press release.

An estimated 1,250 students in seventh through 12th grades will attend classes at the new school.

Nearby construction is in the final stages for the new Eastern fields. The more than $10 million project will feature a new stadium for football, soccer and track, and field, in addition to baseball and softball fields, tennis courts and more parking.
