2 Lansing City Council seats on Tuesday's ballot

Lansing voters will choose the finalists for two seats on the Lansing City Council Tuesday.

Four challengers are trying to take the city's 1st Ward seat from incumbent Jody Washington.

Washington, who was first elected in 2011, is running for her third term.

Other candidates include economist Brandon Betz who has worked on multiple campaigns, real estate broker James Pyle, Scott Hughes, who works in the Ingham County Prosecutor's office, and political science student and assistant teacher Farhan Sheik-Omar.

The top two will move on to the November election.

The other two seats up for grabs are the At-Large seats currently held by Carol Wood and Patricia Spitzley.

They're being challenged by Yanice Jackson-Long, Terry Eagle, and Julee M. Rodocker.

One of those five will be eliminated tomorrow and the other four will go on to the General Election.

The 3rd Ward seat is also up for election this year, but nobody challenged Councilman Adam Hussain so it won't be on the ballot.
