LANSING, Mich. – Lansing Ignite FC announced today the addition of defender Malcolm Stewart, who joins the team for the 2019 USL League One regular season, pending league and federation approval. Stewart will be available for the team’s third home match of the season on Friday, when LIFC kicks off against Toronto FC II at 7 p.m. ET from Cooley Law School Stadium (BUY TICKETS).

Stewart has competed for different levels in the Jamaica men’s national team system, most recently competing for the U-23 team in 2017.

"We are excited to welcome Malcolm to the club,” LIFC Head Coach Nate Miller said. “We wanted to add needed centerback depth and competition.

“Malcolm has good pace and athletic ability and is proficient at winning his duals in transition. He will work hard to integrate into the group and catch up to the level the group has been working at."

Prior to joining Lansing, Stewart attended and excelled with UNC Charlotte, competed for USL League Two side Ocean City Nor’easters and trained with the USL Championship’s LA Galaxy II and former club Nashville SC.

“I’m excited to join Lansing for 2019,” Stewart said. “Coach Miller and the players have been so welcoming. I can’t wait to get on the field and fight for the 517.”

Ignite FC has started the 2019 season off strong, winning three of its four matches, including its first two home matches. The team has scored seven USL League One goals in three games and 11 goals in four total matches (Capital Cup included). Lansing will look to add more goals and another win to its collection on Friday against TFC II before another two-game road trip.
