WINCHESTER — A Winchester man is accused of beating, choking and holding his wife against her will for several hours on Friday.
Police spokeswoman Lt. Amanda Behan said in a Monday email that when the woman came to the police department about 5 p.m. Friday, she had a black eye, red marks on her neck and right torso, and a swollen left wrist. In a criminial complaint, the woman said when she returned from work about 3 a.m. Friday, Jeremy Levar Anderson argued with her for about two hours.
She said the argument then turned violent, with Anderson dragging her by her hair throughout the house. In a criminal complaint, the woman said she was slammed to the ground and bed and held down and choked. "When given the chance, I screamed hoping my neighbors would call the police because he had taken my phone and wouldn't give it back," she said.
Behan said the woman was prevented from leaving her home multiple times. Anderson was arrested at the home about 10:50 p.m. Friday.
Anderson, of the 500 block of North Cameron Street, was arrested and charged with assault and battery of a family member, strangulation, abduction, and preventing a 911 call. The 29-year-old Anderson’s criminal record includes convictions for assault and battery, breaking and entering, and resisting arrest.
Anderson is free on a $5,000 bond. He is scheduled to appear in Frederick/Winchester Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court at 2:30 p.m. on March 13.
