COVID-19: Maharashtra records highest single day death toll as cases rise to over 80,000

Mahrashtra on Friday recorded 139 deaths due to coronavirus which is the highest single-day death toll in the state.

The state health department reported 2,849 total deaths in the state with over 80,000 infected cases.

The state recorded 2,436 coronavirus cases in the last 24 hours. 35,156 patients have recovered from the virus.

In Uttar Pradesh, 502 coronavirus cases were detected with 12 deaths, the state health department said. The death toll in the state has now risen to 257 with the total number of cases rising to 9,733.

Meanwhile, Kerala recorded 111 new coronavirus cases with 973 active cases. The state government informed that the number of cases in the state has risen to 1,697.

Kerala chief minister Pinarayi Vijayan announced that places of worship, restaurants, malls will reopen June 9 in the state.

"All guidelines issued by the Centre will be implemented in the state," the chief minister said.
