LA CROSSE, EAU CLAIRE, Wis. (WLAX/WEUX) – Nearly 500 new, Covid-19 cases are recorded in the last 24 hours pushing the overall total in the state closer to another sobering benchmark.
The latest Department of Health Services numbers show positive test results are closing in on 20,000. Nearly 13,000 of the cases are recovered. Less than 14% of positive cases have resulted in hospitalization. 10 new deaths are announced, bringing the statewide total to 626.
The fight against Covid-19 has been at the forefront of Governor Tony Evers’ administration since mid-March, including the Badger Bounce Back plan. Before today’s state briefing, an open microphone caught Evers seem to ask members of his staff when Wisconsin could declare victory, and Evers took time to respond.
“Seemingly, the percentage of positive cases per total number of tests every day seems to be plateauing and if we are going to make a judgment on the green dots, then that would mean that there has to be a downward trend. So, if it’s alternating between two or three, or three or four, or four or five – whatever. That’s going to be difficult to find a downward trend in that case.”
After no new cases yesterday, Today Eau Claire county announces two new, Covid-19 cases. That raises the total to 116 cases since the outbreak began. More than 5,300 test results have come back negative, with 74 new test results included today.
In a check of area health departments, only La Crosse county is recording an increase in cases today. Two new positive tests bring the tally to 65. The new cases are a woman in her 40s who had contact with a previous case, and a male in his teens. Of the 65 cases, 51 are considered recovered.
