INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. (Inside INdiana Business) – The Indiana Conference for Women is appointing former Indiana Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman as chair of the 2020 conference. The nonprofit says the 10th annual event will be held at the Indiana Convention Center in November.

Skillman will work with the conference’s board of directors to develop the event. The organization says it will focus on selecting lead breakout session speakers and aims to provide an environment where relationships can be forged and skill sets can be grown and strengthened.

“Former Lieutenant Governor Becky Skillman embodies what a true female leader is, making her the perfect chairperson to celebrate our 10th anniversary,” said Billie Dragoo Garcia, co-founder of the Indiana Conference for Women. “She has spent her entire career exemplifying what it means to have purpose, passion and persistence while breaking down barriers for future generations.”

Skillman was the first woman elected as Indiana’s lieutenant governor, serving from 2005-2013. The organization says Skillman helped pass legislation that created the Indiana Commission for Women with State Senator Vi Simpson.

“It is an honor to serve as the chair of the 2020 Indiana Conference for Women as we work together to provide educational, inspirational and professional development opportunities for women. I look forward to a day dedicated to women empowering and encouraging one another,” said Skillman.
