AUGUSTA, Ga. (WJBF) — One person is dead following a shooting in Augusta.

Authorities say just before 2:30 a.m. Sunday, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to the 2300 block of Winston Way for a possible accident where a vehicle had struck a tree.

Deputies found a black 2013 Kia Rio sitting on the eastbound shoulder of Winston Way resting against a tree in front of in the 2300 block of Winston Way.

“Deputies located a driver in the driver’s seat, Deivante McFadden, 21, of Augusta, who was unresponsive and had at least one apparent gunshot wound,” according to Sergeant Caleb Lee with the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office.

He was transported to the Augusta University Medical Center where he was later pronounced dead.

“McFadden was shot at least one time and an autopsy is scheduled for early next week in Atlanta,” according to Richmond County Chief Deputy Coroner Kenneth Boose Sr.
