A long awaited apartment complex project is moving forward with a new name.

Construction continues on that new development off Wrightsboro Road in the medical district.

The project, backed by city bonds, will include 220 upscale apartments and commercial space with a coffee shop.

The project started off as Foundry Place, but officials have changed the name to “Beacon Station” to avoid confusion.

“There are three establishments or entities here in Augusta that bear the name foundry, so we wanted to make sure we didn’t get caught up in the fray, and foundry is definitely a good name but at the same time but Beacon Station is where we are in 2019 and we like that a little better,” says Housing and Development Director Hawthorne Welcher.

Officials say they will begin leasing apartments next month. The grand opening is scheduled for August.

Welcher says leasing will begin on the first phase next month, the development is scheduled to be open in August.
