Going to the hospital in a city of Augusta ambulance could soon cost you.

Augusta has four ambulances to transport patients about twenty-five to thirty times a month.

An Augusta commission committee has approved an $1150 dollar rate for those rides, plus a mileage fee.

City officials say the charge is reasonable because there are costs to running ambulances.

“You will continue to need funds to help pay for, you know, the drugs that go on an ambulance, the reusables, consumables, the stuff that you use, that you throw away or you use up in the process,” says Fire Chief Chris James.

The proposal also says if insurance does not cover the entire bill, patients will not be required to make up the difference.
