Some Augusta workers could soon have more money in their wallets for the holiday.

Commissioners will debate Tuesday a plan to buy back vacation time from city employees.

The proposal allows workers to “cash in up to 24 hours of unused leave”.

The money will show up in paychecks next month.

“I think it’s based on the recommendation, I mean the finance department recommended it, obviously we have the money in there to do it, if we can we need to do it,” says Commissioner Sean Frantom who chairs the Finance Committee.

“Employee moral helpful?”

“Absolutely anytime you can do things for the employees it’s important,” said Frantom.

If all workers take part in the plan the buy-back would cost taxpayers almost 400 thousand dollars.
