The number of businesses, shops and stores burglarized in Nashville last year was down in all eight of the city’s eight police precincts, according to recent crime statistics from Metro police.

The data, which runs from January 1 through December 29 of both years, showed the city experienced a nearly 19-percent decrease in commercial burglaries from 1,307 in 2017 to 1,062 in 2018.

The largest decrease was in the North precinct, which covers the area of North Nashville up to the county line.

There were 172 commercial burglaries reported in 2017 in the North precinct versus 103 in 2018, down about 40-percent.

That was followed by a 35.5-percent decrease in East precinct, 30-percent in Central, 24-percent in West and 20-percent in Midtown Hills.

There were single-digit drops in Madison, Hermitage and South precincts with declines by 7-percent, 3-percent and 2.5-percent respectively.

For the first 40 days of 2019, Metro police data showed the number of commercial burglaries was down nearly 8-percent with 108 reported this year, compared to 117 during the same time period in 2018.
