Frankfort police are teaming up with Franklin County Schools in an effort to keep students who ride the bus safe.

This effort comes after several cases of drivers hitting students at bus stops. Franklin County Transportation Director Brad McKinney urges drivers to show more patience on the roads.

"These are our children on our buses. Why can't the public just slow down and take 60 seconds?" McKinney asked.

Frankfort police is assisting the school district by having more officers out before and after school patrolling areas where violations are reported.

"We certainly don't want to be out writing tickets this time of year but we're going to enforce the law so be warned," Captain Chris Quire with the Frankfort Police Department said.

The county has equipped buses with outside cameras in an effort to hold irresponsible drivers accountable.

Authorities ask witnesses to write down a driver's license plate if they notice a driver violating school bus laws.
