Crews in Frankfort responded to a small plane crash at the Capital City Airport late Thursday morning.

Officials say the private plane is based out of Lexington, and a flight instructor and student were on board. The plane crashed while landing. They haven't said who was at the controls.

The plane veered off and went down a small slope where it caught fire. Both of the people on board were able to get out and we are told they refused any medical treatment.

The plane caught fire, but firefighters were quickly able to put it out.

Operations at Capital City Airport continue as normal. The FAA has been called to investigate.
