Hundreds rally in Frankfort to defend Second Amendment rights

Gun advocates rallied in Frankfort Tuesday to defend their Second Amendment rights.

A group called

created the event.

A statement on the Facebook page said the group planned the rally in response to recent trends in gun control legislation.

Some of the participants said they're nervous their rights could be taken from them now that the faces in Frankfort have changed.

Hundreds of people gathered at the VA post in Frankfort to march to the Capitol and make sure politicians hear their message.

"We use [guns] for protection and we use them to hunt if we run out of groceries. We can go hunting and use them to get food. If somebody tries to come into our house and we have to, we can defend ourselves," said Bryce Nugent from Hancock County.

Some of this is in response to Bill Request 354. Ralliers say it would essentially define and ban assault rifles.

But the bill's wording says it would

"require the owners of registered assault weapons to store the weapons in a manner which renders them inoperable to unauthorized users."

"We want them to know, listen, we are the people we support this we want you to support it that's why we vote for these people," said William Lawrence, of Maysville.

Some people told WKYT the rally is a response to gun restriction laws proposed in Virginia.

WHSV reports, one bill in Virginia would raise the minimum age to purchase a firearm to 21 and requires a background check for any firearm transfer, including private sales, which are currently exempt.
