Injuries, power outages reported as storms make their way through Mississippi

JACKSON, Miss. (WLBT) - Thousands of Mississippians woke up in the dark Saturday as a powerful storm moved its way across the South.

Entergy ireported almost 30,000 power outages at it’s peak, with 11,800 in Bolivar County alone.

Southern Pine initially reported 2,100 power outages, with a majority of those affected being in Copiah County. Most customers have their power back.

There have also been reports of storm-related injuries, with two being hurt in Greenville when a tree fell on their home.A mobile home has also reportedly flipped in Drew. There has been no word on if anyone was injured when this happened.

A weak EF0 tornado touched down just north of Forest. It was on the ground for almost 3 miles. Maximum winds are 65 mph mainly tree damage from near Hillsboro St to MS 21 near Gum Spring.

Copiah County EMA Director Randle Drane has confirmed that a tree fell on a car on I-55 around the mile marker 53 exit Saturday morning.

Fire and emergency crews were on the scene.

Flash flood warnings have also been issued for Hinds and Rankin Counties until 10 a.m.
