Director of ICE visits Louisville for sheriffs conference
The director of U.S. immigration and Customs Enforcement made a stop in Louisville on Sunday.
Mark Morgan visited for the National Sheriffs Association conference.
He says the toughest battle ICE is facing right now is the humanitarian and national security crisis. Morgan used to be the head of Border Patrol.
Morgan, who agrees with President Donald Trump's plan to build a wall at the border, touched on that subject during the conference. He says the wall will be part of a multilayered framework of technology, personnel and infrastructure.
He also touched on the impact of Louisville's Border Enforcement Security Team.
"If you have a fentanyl overdose that's happening right here and it's happened, if you do the investigation, you're going to find a large percentage of the time that narcotic, that drug, absolutely goes back to the southwest border. That's why these BEST teams are working with our local Sheriff's Office. Our local Police Department is so important."
The National Sheriffs Association conference is in Louisville through Tuesday.
