120 MEN AND WOMEN WITH THE 223RD MILITARY POLICE COMPANY HAVE BEEN TRAINING FOR THIS MISSION FOR THE LAST YEAR AND ARE NOW HEADED TO GUANTANAMO BAY. >> OUR TRAINING HAS BEEN REALISTIC AND DEMANDING AND OUR SOLDIERS HAVE GIVEN MAXIMUM EFFORT WHEN CALLED UPON, THEY’VE PROVEN THEIR RESILIENCE AND THEIR READINESS IN THESE REALISTIC TRAINING ENVIRONMENTS. DENI: SOLDIERS FROM SEVERAL DIFFERENT UNITS COMBINED TO TRAIN FOR THIS DEPLOYMENT. DURING THEIR MISSION AT GUANTANAMO BAY THE MEN AND WOMEN WILL ASSIST WITH THE U.S.’ EFFORTS IN THE SOUTH AMERICA. AT A CEREMONY EARLIER TODAY SOLDIERS SAID GOOD BYE TO SPOUSES, PARENTS AND CHILDREN. MANY SAY WHILE BEING AWAY WILL BE DIFFICULT THEY’RE READY TO TACKLE THIS MISSION. >> IT’S DEFINITELY GOING TO BE A GOOD LEARNING EXPERIENCE, WE’ BE ABLE TO GET A LOT OF EXPERIENCE DOWN THERE AND LOOK FORWARD TO PROGRESSING IN MY CAREER. >> IT’S EXCITING BECAUSE IT’S WHAT WE’VE BEEN TRAINING FOR AND THE QUICKER WE GET THIS DONE, THE QUICKER WE COME HOME. DENI: THE NATIONAL GUARD CANNOT DISCLOSE HOW LONG THEY WILL BE DEPLOYED. THE LAST TIME THE UNIT WAS DEPLOYED WAS IN 2008 AND 2009 TO BAGHDAD, IRAQ IN SUPPORT OF OPERATION IRAQI FREEDOM. Kentucky National Guard soldiers were deployed to Guantanamo Bay.A departure ceremony was held Friday for more than 120 soldiers with the Kentucky Army National Guard’s 223rd Military Police Company. The ceremony was at the United Auto Workers Union Hall in Louisville.The soldiers are deploying in support of U.S. Southern Command.The Louisville-based unit was last deployed in 2008-2009 to Baghdad, Iraq, in Support of Operation Iraqi Freedom.

Kentucky National Guard soldiers were deployed to Guantanamo Bay.
