The six-acre estate is at 1801 Sulgrave Road and is known as Cold Spring. The original house on the property was built by Joshua Fry Speed and his wife, Fanny Hennings Speed, in 1867.

The house underwent extensive renovations in 1911, transforming the simpler Victorian Speed home into an Italian villa, according to a news release.
By comparison, the most expensive home to sell in Jefferson County last year went for $3.75 million.
