Louisville football readies for twists and turns of COVID-19 before fall season
Louisville college football leaders are still bracing for plenty of twists and turns before the season officially gets underway.
Members of the University of Louisville and the National Atlantic Coast Conference are meeting this week with their SEC and Big-12 counterparts to coordinate their plans moving forward with fall football.
WLKY sports director Fred Cowgill said it's still a fragile situation with some likely twists and turns before it's all over.
ESPN Radio's Bob Valvano suggests UofL, the ACC and the other college conferences delay until the spring to see if the NFL makes fall football work. But the Cardinals and quarterback Micale Cunningham said they want to play now in spite of the risks.
"We all want to go out there and play and be safe," Cunningham said. "We've been doing those protocols since June and they've been working for us, so why not go out there and play."
Some have floated putting Louisville and the ACC in an off-campus, out-of-town bubble and play the season there to minimize the risks. But critics have said its impractical.
All-in-all, teams and players can make all the plans they want, but they all really don't know what the future holds. Ultimately, it's up to the coronavirus and how society manages it moving forward.
