Justin Curry on home incarceration at time of killing

FOLLOWING THIS CASE FROM THE BEGINNING. MORGAN: INSIDE THIS LOUISVILLE APARTMENT COMPLEX >> HE GAVE THIS BOY A PLACE TO STAY, AND THEN YOU KILLED HIM. MORGAN: A MAN’S GOOD DEED ULTIMATELY LED TO HIS DEAT >> JAMIE WAS A GOOD HEART THAT HELPED EVERYBODY IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD. HE LIKED KIDS. HE WAS ALWAYS DOING SOMETHING. JAMIE’S HEART IS WHAT GOT HIM KILLED. MORGAN: IN 2017, JAMES HARRIS LET JUSTIN CURRY, A MAN HE’D KNOWN FOR YEARS, STAY AT HIS TERRIL LANE APARTMENT. CURRY WAS ON HOME INCARCERATION, AWAITING TRIAL ON A DRUG CHARGE, AND HARRIS WAS A CONVICTED FELON. HIS MOTHER SAYS THAT SITUATION NEVER SHOULD HAVE HAPPENED. >> AS SOON AS SOMEONE CAN TELL ME WHY HE’S THERE, AND THAT IT WAS JUSTIFICATION FOR HIS BEING THERE, THEN IT’S FINE, BUT NOT UNTIL THEN. MORGAN: JUST DAYS AFTER MOVING IN, CURRY SHOT AND KILLED HARRIS. THE 31-YEAR-OLD WAS CHARGED AND LATER CONVICTED OF MURDER. A JURY RECOMMENDED A LIFE SENTENCE. ON MONDAY, A JUDGE AGREED. >>I BELIEVE THE EVIDENCE SUPPORTED THE VERDICT THAT WAS RENDERED, SO I’M GOING TO ENFORCE THE VERDICT AS THE JURY RECOMMENDED. MORGAN: THE SENTENCE PROVIDES SOME COMFORT FOR HIS HEARTBROKEN FAMILY, BUT QUESTIONS STILL LINGER, ESPECIALLY FOR HARRIS’ THREE YOUNG KIDS. >>HE JUST DON’T UNDERSTAND HOW DOES SOMEBODY THAT CLAIMS TO BE LIKE FAMILY TO YOU, A BROTHER, KILL YOU? AND FOR WHAT REASON? MORGAN: MAYBE THE ONE THING CONNIE HARRIS WILL NEVER QUESTION THAT HER SON LEFT THIS EARTH KNOWING HE WAS LOVED. >> I TOLD HIM I LOVED HIM, AND THAT’S WHAT MAKES ME FEEL GOOD, BECAUSE THOSE WERE THE LAST WORDS I SPOKE TO MY CHILD. VICKI: AT TRIAL, JUSTIN CURRY READ A LETTER THAT HIS LAWYER CLAIMED WAS AN APOLOGY. THE VICTIM’S FAMILY SAYS THEY DON’T BELIEVE A WORD OF IT. REPORTING LIVE DOWNTOWN, I’M MORGAN LENTES, WLKY
