COLUMBIA, S.C. — The coronavirus is not preventing new businesses from opening in Columbia. The area around Cross Hill is seeing a slight boom with five new enterprises – three restaurants and two retail shops – in various stages of opening.
First, Another Broken Egg Café is joining Kairos Mediterranean restaurant at 4600 Devine Street, in a newly constructed building on the former Ruby Tuesday's site. A growing diner chain throughout the South, Another Broken Egg specializes in breakfast, brunch and lunch. The menu uses fresh ingredients and has gluten-friendly and vegetarian options. There is a kids’ menu and, for the brunch crowd, signature cocktails and mimosas and Bloody Marys available by the pitcher. No opening date has been set as the space is nearing completion but the café is accepting applications online at anotherbrokenegg.com.
Kairos Mediterranean restaurant opened earlier this month at 4600 Devine, specializing in build-your-own salads, bowls, sandwiches and wraps inspired by Greek cuisine.
La Paleta Bar has opened at 4346 Fort Jackson Blvd. – look for the yellow Tacos El Puebla truck on the corner -- offering Mexican popsicles and snacks. Mexican popsicles? Yes. Made fresh all-fruit popsicles with a variety of toppings available – along with traditional snow cones and candy. Some of the flavors available now include pineapple with chile, kiwi, cucumber with chile, and lime. La Paleta is open Monday through Saturday noon-8 p.m. and Sunday noon-5 p.m.
One of the last out-parcels at Cross Hill Market is under construction for what will be The Good Feet Store and LensCrafters. The new building is situated between Basil Thai Cuisine and Duck Donuts, along the Cross Hill Road side of the market. No opening dates yet.
The Good Feet Store specializes in arch supports and foot and back pain relief. Arch supports, made in the USA, help align the feet, which aligns the body and reduces pain. Customers are provided free personalized fittings and test walks to try out the products before purchase.
