Police: Indiana woman charged with giving drugs to man who fatally overdosed
A woman has been arrested and charged for allegedly selling a man drugs, causing his fatal overdose in Franklin County, police said.Kelly Neville, 31, was charged with dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death.Police said the arrest comes after officers found Jeffrey Shultz, 29, dead in the restroom of a Family Dollar in Metamora.Following an autopsy, a pathologist with the Hamilton County Coroner's Office determined that Shultz died of an overdose involving acetyl fentanyl, fentanyl and heroin.After several months of investigation by the Franklin County Sheriff's Department, Neville was found to be the suspected source of the drugs that are believed to have killed Shultz, police said. Neville is being held at the Franklin County Security Center. No bond has been set at this time.Police said Neville delivered heroin and/or fentanyl to Shultz, and Shultz used, injected, inhaled, absorbed or ingested the heroin and/or fentanyl, resulting in his death. Prosecutor Chris Huerkamp said the charge is based on a statute that only recently came into effect, as the crime of dealing in a controlled substance resulting in death had not been a specific offense until it was codified by the Legislature on July 1, 2018.The investigation remains ongoing, police said. Huerkamp and police said additional persons of interest face the possibility of charges in the incident.Anyone with further information is asked to call the Franklin County Sheriff's Department at 765-647-4138.
