Woman charged after parents allege 8-month-old daughter assaulted at Covington child care facility
A woman was charged after an 8-month-old child was "inappropriately grabbed and handled" at the Chapman Child Development Center in Covington, according to the Covington Police Department.
Police have charged Sheila Sandmann, 63, of Taylor Mill, Kentucky, who was a former employee at the facility, in connection with an investigation that was started after parents alleged their child was assaulted.
Covington police said during their investigation, they discovered an employee of the child care facility had inappropriately grabbed and handled the 8-month-old girl. The child was taken to Cincinnati Children's Hospital following the incident. It was determined at the hospital that the child did not suffer any internal or external injuries, but did have visible swelling on her arm.
Police are not releasing the identity of the child due to her age.
This incident has many parents who take their children to that child care facility concerned.
Brooke Stewart said she heard great things about Chapman Child Care Center.
Teachers in the school district recommended it for her 5-month-old daughter Ava.
"This is my first baby, so I trusted them with my entire life," said Stewart. "You place so much trust in day care when you're dropping off your child. And I think they should be more transparent than they are. I don't have any words. I just have a huge lump in my chest because I couldn't imagine it happening to my baby."
