MEMPHIS, Tenn. (WMC) - Miss Tennessee organizers announced Friday that the scholarship competition is coming to Memphis.

Mayor Jim Strickland joined Joe Albright, CEO and chair of the Miss Tennessee Scholarship Competition, for the announcement at the Peabody Hotel Friday afternoon.

Albright said when he took over as CEO and chair, it was his plan to make the Miss Tennessee competition for all of Tennessee.

“We started that last year by taking the Miss Tennessee Scholarship Competition to Knoxville, and we’re continuing that tradition this year,” he said.

Albright announced that the 2020 Miss Tennessee Scholarship Competition is June 7 through 13 at the Cannon Center.

“This is a great day for Memphis,” said Strickland. “Memphis has a unique relationship with Miss Tennessee."

Strickland said the only two Miss America winners from Tennessee were from Memphis, and Albright commented on the history during his announcement.

“The only two (Tennessee) Miss Americas have made their presence known in Memphis, so wouldn’t it be great if we did that again?" said Albright.

Albright said it’s not yet clear on where the competition goes from here.
