Early morning armed robbery under investigation in Dover

DOVER, Del. — Dover Police say they are investigating an armed robbery at an outdoor ATM that happened early Thursday morning.

Police say just before 2:40 a.m. at the Wells Fargo Bank located in the 100 block of North DuPont Highway, a man, now viewed as the victim, was withdrawing cash from the ATM, when he was approached by another man, now viewed as the suspect. Reports say the suspect pointed a gun at the victim and demanded money. The victim dropped his wallet, but was still holding cash in his hand from the ATM.

Authorities say the victim then fled eastbound across DuPont Highway and the suspect fired at least three shots at the victim. The victim was not struck, but one round did strike a parked vehicle in the area.  The victim saw the suspect enter a vehicle behind the bank and flee southbound with an undisclosed amount of cash from him.

The investigation is ongoing and anyone with information is asked to contact the Dover Police Department at 302-736-7130.
