CITY LEADERS HOPE THE CHANGE WILL DRAW MORE PEOPLE DOWNTOWN... SINCE IT WILL BE EASIER FOR DRIVERS TO GET IN AND OUT. CREWS ARE ALSO WORKING TO MAKE THE AREA MORE ACCESSIBLE AND SAFER FOR áPEDESTRIANSá. Water Street in downtown Augusta switched from one-way to two-way traffic Monday afternoon.The city made the change to allow easier access to downtown areas. City leaders hope the project will boost tourism.The project also included new pavement and sidewalk enhancements to make travel easier and safer for vehicles and pedestrians.Water Street has been one-way for the past 75 years.
