Jurors view graphic photos, video in trial of Maine mother charged with killing daughter
Jurors in the murder trial of Sharon Carrillo Wednesday viewed graphic photos and video of the abuse 10-year-old Marissa Kennedy suffered before she died.
Sharon Carrillo is accused of killing her daughter in their Stockton Springs home in 2018.
Sharon Carrillo's husband, Julio Carrillo, pleaded guilty to murder for Kennedy's death and is serving 55 years in prison.
A witness took the stand Wednesday from the Maine State Police Computer Crimes Unit saying she pulled many pictures and videos off multiple cellphones seized as part of the investigation into Kennedy's death.
A picture was first shown to the jurors of what appeared to be a young girl on her knees on tile floor with her arms in the air. She was only wearing underwear with bruises on her stomach and chest.
A second picture was also shown of the child in the same position with a woman behind her, kneeling with her arms in the air, naked.
Three videos were also shown of what was Sharon Carrillo screaming and acting hysterical. Julio Carrillo is recording all the videos and can be heard talking to Sharon Carrillo.
Sharon Carrillo is heard screaming and begging Julio Carrillo to let her "calm down." A small child can be heard crying in the background of one of the videos. Julio Carrillois also heard saying to Sharon Carrillo, "Marissa is behaving and you are not."
The witness also testified she found many pictures that showed a young girl with a significant amount of bruises all over her body and a large abrasion with blood coming from it. She also said the child looked very pale in color.
Wednesday afternoon, Maine Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Mark Flomenbaum testified for the prosecution.
Flomenbaum testified that Kennedy had man cuts and abrasions caused by severe blunt force trauma. He said in all, there were 40 to 50 blunt-force injuries on her body that were very painful.
"The heart gave way ultimately, it just couldn't keep up," Flomenbaum said.
