Powerful ocean storm brings big waves, wind to Maine
While the big ocean storm off the New England coast will be mostly a miss for Maine, the storm is kicking up big waves.
The nor'easter, centered southeast of New England, became subtropical storm Melissa late Friday morning, with 65 mph sustained winds.
Melissa will gradually weaken and begin moving away from the East Coast Friday night.
A high surf advisory has been issued for the entire coast of Maine until 2 p.m. Saturday
Waves of 7 to 14 feet are likely along the coast.
The high surf will create strong rip currents, and some minor beach erosion is possible at high tide.
Much of Maine will see strong winds from the storm, gusting up to 30 mph. The immediate coast could see some rain showers.
Winds will ease on Saturday, with more sun and warmth on Sunday.
