The Concord School District presented its plan to reopen school in the fall in an online forum with parents on Tuesday.
Concord school administrators sent out surveys in June and July to get a pulse on how parents, teachers and students felt about returning to school. Those results were used to form this proposal.
The proposal is set to be presented to the school board on Monday, then the board will make a final decision.
District officials said they are looking at three possible routes for the academic year. One involves a full return to the classroom, another consists of going only remote and the third is a hybrid model.
Students would be assigned into an A or B group. Those in group A would meet on Monday and Thursday, while those in group B would meet on Tuesday and Friday.
When it comes to health screens, school officials are asking parents to be the first line of defense.
“We as a district will provide a checklist that is backed by medical consultants,” Director of Facilities and Planning Matt Cashman said. “We’re working on thermometers to be available for families that need them.”
Staff and students will also be screened before entering the building. Schools will have limits on how many students can be in their cafeterias.
“Breakfast and lunch will be grab and go,” Cashman said. “We hope and expect to deliver food that can go out into the community. Whether it’s pickup or delivery. We are awaiting waivers.”
As for transportation, the district’s 77 passenger buses will only carry 26.
“The youngsters will be in assigned seats,” Interim Superintendent Kathleen Murphy said. “They will be permanent. We will allow siblings to sit together. But, we are asking that masks be worn on the bus.”
