Londonderry man recreates marriage proposal wearing bunny suit, 21 years later
It's not every day you see a 6-foot, 8-inch-tall bunny waiting for arrivals at Manchester-Boston Regional Airport.
And for the man who was wearing the suit, that was the point.
Mark DeAngelis, of Londonderry, wanted to do something unique, just like he did 21 years ago when he asked his wife, Jolene, to marry him. It was Easter of 1998, and DeAngelis surprised Jolene during the family Easter egg hunt, while wearing a bunny suit.
“That whole thing bought me a lot of points for a lot of years. Now I need to restock those points,” laughed DeAngelis. “So the plan for today is to recreate that moment as best I can.”
On Tuesday, Jolene and their daughters, Audrey and Amanda, were flying back from a vacation in Florida.
DeAngelis waited anxiously to surprise them.
“The bunny suit is almost identical, especially the head. The head is perfect,” he said.
But the most important part was a large silver egg inside Easter basket, which held a new ring for their 20th wedding anniversary.
“It's platinum because it's our platinum anniversary,” said DeAngelis. “I'm going to ask her for another 20 years at least.”
The moment Jolene saw a man in a bunny suit hop toward her as she descended the escalator, she broke out laughing.
DeAngelis got down on one knee and showed her the ring.
His wife was moved to tears.
“She said 'yes!'” DeAngelis shouted, to applause as a crowd gathered around.
“Yeah, I’m shocked. I had no clue,” said Jolene. “He’s a good guy, and he’ll always, to the end of the earth, protect us.”
“It's just my parents and I love them so much and I thought it was so sweet of him to think of her and do this for her,” said their daughter Amanda.
