A proposal for a new residential drug treatment center in Dover has won approval of the city’s zoning board.
The three-story facility would be built on a piece of vacant land off Central Avenue,
“This would be a 60-bed facility. It is zoned as a hospital so we could have a detox, overnight inpatient, and also up to a 28-day or even further stay as a resident program,” said Michael Patenaud of River Valley Development Corporation, who owns the land and created the proposal.
Patenaud also said the facility would be highly secured and be close to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital.
Mark Bowe, who owns the nearby Dover Bowl and has been in recovery since 1982, said he supports the proposal.
“Everybody knows that there is a need and if we take care of the problem it’s better for everybody,” he told WMUR.
The proposal will now go to Dover’s planning board.
