Salem firefighters helped save a baby boy from a near-drowning earlier this month.
On Aug. 11, Salem firefighters received a 911 call about a possible drowning of an 18-month-old child in a pool. Crews arrived less than four minutes later.
Upon arrival, they found the homeowner, who is a former emergency medical technician, performing CPR on the baby. Salem medics and EMTs took over and continued providing CPR and other lifesaving efforts. They successfully restarted the boy's heart and, ultimately, his breathing.
The baby boy, named Cameron, was transported to Holy Family Hospital in Methuen, Massachusetts, and was then airlifted to the Floating Hospital for Children at Tufts Medical Center in Boston, where he made a full recovery. He was discharged Wednesday and is at home.
On Monday, Cameron and his family visited the firefighters who helped save him.
