HARTFORD, Mich. (WOOD) — A partial building collapse in Hartford closed two downtown streets Thursday.

Police have opened half of the intersection, allowing drivers to turn the corner.

Hartford Mayor Richard Hall says it happened around 3 p.m. and no one was hurt. He says the building has been vacant for many years and was going through a potential sale.

“It has been several businesses,” Hall said. “That is one of the original buildings from town there are only about seven or eight left now, two years ago we had to take one down on the other corner.”

Police and firefighters blocked off the area because of concerns the entire building could come down.

Frank Doctor saw it fall from his car as he was pulling into town and says it was a miracle no one was injured.

“I’d think they’d get killed, that whole front fell down,” Doctor said. “It’s all brick.”

The city is working on locating a crew to tear the building down, but that could take several days.

The cause of the collapse is unknown at this time.
