A WOMAN was hit by a bus in the city centre after walking out in front of the vehicle.

Paramedics treated the pedestrian, believed to be in her 30s, for a head injury and took her to Worcestershire Royal Hospital.

The woman was reportedly breathing and conscious after the crash, which happened in Foregate Street, Worcester, outside Sainsbury's at around 1.40pm today.

A spokesman for First Bus said: “One of our vehicles was involved in a road traffic incident on Foregate Street.

“A pedestrian stepped into the path of one of our vehicles.

Fortunately the driver was only doing around 12 miles per hour.

“Emergency services attended the scene and the pedestrian was taken away in an ambulance.

“The driver is okay but shaken as a result of the incident.”

He added that none of the passengers on the service 36 bus were injured in the crash.

One eyewitness said: “She walked out into the middle of the road and the bus hit her.

“The bus was going at a reasonable speed.”

A Sainsbury’s worker added: “We heard a big bang, we thought he [the driver] clipped the car door.

“We called our manager who is first aid trained and two people came from the train station who were first aid trained. We gave the driver a cup of tea.”

The employee added that they spotted the driver jump out of his bus and saw a person on the ground.

One woman, who did not want to be named, said people were administering first aid to the pedestrian, before paramedics arrived.

A customer at coffee shop Wayland's Yard claimed the woman was put on a trolley and taken away in an ambulance.

West Midlands Ambulance Service said the patient was not thought to have suffered serious injuries.

Police also responded to the incident and the First bus driver was reportedly breathalysed with a zero reading.

The bus’s front nearside window was smashed in the crash, leaving glass scattered across the road.

No arrests were made.

We reported in August Lily Alves, aged 14, was hit by a bus in Deansway near the Heart of Worcestershire College.

She is expected to make a full recovery but it will be a slow process, according to medics.

An investigation by First Bus found the driver did "everything he could" to avoid hitting the teenager.
