WORCESTER City Council has given advice to anyone wishing to donate to the homeless this winter after a countywide donation campaign launched.
The 'I am not lost' campaign sees people donate warm clothing and blankets to the homeless by leaving them on benches, tied round lamp posts or delivered in person and was started by the Worcestershire Homeless Appeal, with plans for a mass donation on the night of February 24 in Worcester, Evesham, Malvern and Droitwich.
A city council spokesman said: "Rough sleeping is an issue that touches everyone’s heart and many people are keen to help the support services that operate in Worcester.
"The best way for people to support work to help rough sleepers is by making a donation to the Worcester Cares campaign.
"All donations are distributed among the city’s charities that work with rough sleepers. It’s easy to donate to Worcester Cares.
"If people do leave scarves, hats and other clothing around the city centre, as part of the ‘I am not lost’ campaign we will work with local partners to ensure they reach the rough sleepers they are intended for."
Worcester City Council works with groups including CCP, Maggs Day Centre and St Paul's Hostel to provide accommodation and support to rough sleepers.
Under the Severe Weather Emergency Protocol, a night shelter is opened for rough sleepers when the temperature drops below freezing.
