MANAGER John Snape felt Worcester City missed the chance to “restart” their season after being denied a morale-boosting victory at Sporting Khalsa.

Worcester were looking to bounce back from their 6-1 thrashing by Westfields but fell behind courtesy of Dave Meese’s 17th minute strike.

A superb solo goal from Jamal Lawrence drew City level before James Baldwin netted with less than 10 minutes left.

But Dan Westwood made it 2-2 with an 86th minute equaliser after Worcester failed to deal with a long ball into the box.

“I am obviously disappointed to concede the second goal, never mind the first,” Snape said.

“In the first half I thought both sides struggled as there were only three chances.

“But in the second half we have come out and found our way in.

“We got ourselves to 1-1 and were in the ascendancy and looking OK.

“There were a couple of very close calls for offside from the linesman when I thought it wasn’t as James was five or six yards onside and was through.

“There were some strange refereeing decisions for both sides but James got us a goal with a brilliant finish.

“For both goals our players showed their endeavour. They could have gone down as they were fouled when they went through but they wanted to score and did so.

“The disappointing thing was that we let too many balls come into our box in the last 10 minutes and we conceded a goal.

“I said to the lads afterwards to come here and get a point is great, but if you come here and get a win it restarts our season again so I am very disappointed for them.”

Snape was particularly impressed with the “excellent” Lawrence who made his marked his debut with a fine run and finish.

The manager was also happy with the performances of debutants Kaoui Attoumani and Grant Horton who played the full 90 minutes.

“Jamal probably played longer than we wanted him to because of the injury to Jordan Harrison,” Snape said.

“But positively he gave us a little spark and so did K who had some nice touches but doesn’t quite know the lads well enough.

“There is a language barrier at the moment which we are hoping to break.

“K, Lozza and Grant all came in and did well.”

Snape said the new trio added to City’s youthful team and was pleased to see the club’s rising stars Riley Keasey, Liam Lockett and Josh Willis all feature at Khalsa.

“The average age of the side is very low,” Snape added.

“Only Mat Birley and Sam Gilder are over 30 so we are building platforms.

“It is about passion, integrity and above all patience this year.

“We have said that before.

“We have got to feed the youth through the system and we can become self-generating going forward for the football club.”
