$48 million in federal flood aid approved for Nebraska

FEMA and the Nebraska Emergency Management Agency announced on Monday that Nebraska will receive $48 million in federal funding for those affected by the March 2019 flood.

The U.S. Small Business Administration approved $15.2 million in low-interest loans to businesses, nonprofits, homeowners and renters.

FEMA approved $19.2 million in individual assistance for households affected by the disaster.

The National Flood Insurance Program also approved $14.1 million for flood victims.

According to FEMA, more than 5,000 households applied for assistance and over 4,200 home inspections have been completed in the counties designated for individual assistance.

FEMA teams have visited 14,360 homes overall.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture helped with the recovery of 628 carcasses of animals killed in the flood.

The Red Cross helped more than 6,300 flood victims and fed them 154,000 meals, along with organizations like the Salvation Army, Southern Baptist Disaster Relief and Operation BBQ.
