A former mayor of Omaha was honored for his service at Tuesday's city council meeting.

Subby Anzaldo went before city council today to hear that the Columbus Park Community Center will now be named after him.

Anzaldo served as interim mayor in 1994 for a few months after another mayor resigned, and spent more than a decade on the city council.

"It was my pleasure to cut the ribbon for the community center, and now it's wonderful to have my name, and I see you spelled it correctly, too. Brook, you spelled it correctly," he said at the unveiling.

Mayor Jean Stothert called Anzaldo a "lifelong advocate for South Omaha."

Anzaldo told the council that if now for his poor health he would still be serving on the zoning board.
