PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) – Massachusetts leaders are hoping to woo Hasbro out of Pawtucket and into the Commonwealth.
On Friday, the Massachusetts Office of Business Development told Eyewitness News it is “working to establish a dialogue with the company, as it regularly does with businesses both in and outside the Commonwealth that may benefit from learning more about the many opportunities to grow in Massachusetts.”
Commerce Secretary, Stefan Pryor, said keeping Hasbro in Rhode Island remains a top priority for Rhode Island officials.
“We remain in continuous conversation with the company and, as with any Rhode Island business, are ready to assist in any way we can,” Pryor said in a statement.
The company has shed little light on their search for a new headquarters. A spokeswoman said Friday there were no new developments to report and the company is continuing to evaluate options for a new headquarters.
In December, Hasbro CEO Brian Goldner sat down with Eyewitness News reporter Ted Nesi for an exclusive interview. At the time, Goldner said they hoped to make a final decision on their future headquarters by mid-2019.
“We all in our hearts love Rhode Island,” Goldner said at the time. “But we also have a group of shareholders who invest in this company from all over the world and they want us to make the best possible decision.”
Rhode Island leaders have remained confident Hasbro will stay in Rhode Island, but have made no promises it will stay in Pawtucket.
