PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — A man continues to recover at the hospital after he was stabbed Thursday night in Providence.

Police say they’re still searching for a suspect in the attack that took place around 9:30 p.m. on Tuxedo Avenue, in the city’s Olneyville section. Officers arrived on scene to find a man standing on the sidewalk with a severe laceration to his neck and eye, according to police.

The man, identified as Eddy “Javier” Mendoza, 22, was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he’s listed in stable condition.

An eyewitness told police he was sitting with Mendoza inside a parked car when a green Volvo sedan with Connecticut registration pulled up beside their vehicle. A man got out, leaned into the open window of Mendoza’s car then repeatedly stabbed him in the neck, jaw and eye, according to the eyewitness.

Police said the suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 20’s who was wearing a red and black hooded sweatshirt.
