PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WPRI) — Providence police are investigating after two bodies were pulled from the Providence River Friday afternoon.
Police were called shortly after noon for reports of a body found in the area of the Hurricane Barrier.
Police said a worker contracted to do work in the area found the body while removing debris from around the barrier.
Police said they launched two boats and when retrieving the first body, they found a second deceased man in the water.
Maj. David Lapatin told Eyewitness News the bodies were two middle-aged males and the cause of the deaths is under investigation.
Police said the bodies were turned over to the Medical Examiner’s Office and autopsies need to be completed.
Lapatin said the deaths do not appear suspicious.
