DURHAM, N.C. — On Saturday, the fourth annual shoe and turkey giveaway hosted by The Spirit of Victory church in partnership with marketing and event management company A.C.T. productions aimed to bring light to the Durham community of Oxford Manor.

According to Charles Brown, a member of the two hosting organizations, the community of Oxford Manor was targeted for this year's event because of a rise in crime in the area.

Brown said the organizations gave away over 100 turkeys to members of the community.

The event was also set up within walking distance from the community so that residents who did not have access to transportation could participate.

The organizations added a new element to their event this year by also giving out shoes.

Brown said over 300 pairs of gently used shoes were collected to give away on Saturday.

Approximately 200 people came to the event in order to receive shoes and a turkey, according to Brown.
