RALEIGH, N.C. — Police say a man suspected of driving while impaired crashed into a parked car so hard it was launched into a neighbor’s driveway.

A home security camera caught the moment police say 52-year-old David Burns drove through Jonathan Habers’ yard.

Habers, who lives on Southwalk Lane in Raleigh, said he heard a loud bang Tuesday night.

“I look at my driveway camera and say, ‘Where did my car go?’” Habers said.

He went outside and checked on Burns, who police say was driving 25 mph when he crashed.

“We wanted to make sure he was OK,” Habers said. “He shook his head yes and looked like he was completely out of it – intoxicated or something. Something wasn’t right with him.”

Burns was charged with driving while impaired.

Habers said Burns’ car traveled down the sidewalk hitting his car.

Burns’ car also knocked down a mailbox and rear-ended a neighbor’s truck, Habers said.

A mailbox was damaged when a DWI suspect crashed through a Raleigh man's yard.

Neighbors said it is a miracle nobody was seriously hurt or killed.

“You can see the tire tracks on the grass,” Habers said. “No intention of stopping, no brake.”
