Inmate who walked away from Raleigh work-release job back in custody
An inmate who walked away from a work-release assignment in Raleigh on Thursday evening was back in custody Friday morning.

The North Carolina Department of Public Safety said Gayle Newcombe, 44, was captured around 1:45 a.m.
She was reported missing from her work assignment on Avent Ferry Road at about 5:45 p.m.. and did not return.
Authorities said Newcombe was working was a minimum custody offender but will be demoted.
Officials said she was serving a sentence on charges of being a habitual felon, breaking and entering, larceny and wanton injury to personal property.
She has been imprisoned since Aug. 27, 2014 and was originally scheduled for release on April 18, 2020.
DPS will pursue charges, it said.
Court records show Newcombe, a Wayne County native, has charges dating back to 1992 that include possession of stolen goods, obtaining property by false pretense, uttering a false instrument, driving while impaired, larceny and breaking and entering.
