I'm going to start this post by cutting and pasting directly from the news release that announced it, because it's kind of cracking me up ...

What do you get from a glut of TV? A pain in the neck and an IQ of three. Why don't you try simply reading a book? Or could you just not bear to look? You'll get no ... you'll get no ... you'll get no ... you'll get no ... you'll get no commercials when the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences shows “Willy Wonka & the Chocolate Factory” on the big screen Friday, September 28 at 7 p.m.

That's right ... the downtown Raleigh museum will offer a screening of the 1971 hit starring Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka this Friday. It's based on the 1964 novel by Roald Dahl and, according to the news release, is such a classic, it was selected for preservation in the United States National Film Registry by the Library of Congress for being "culturally, historically or aesthetically significant."

Also, I don't know about you, but it's a vivid part my childhood - and my kids (this version, not the newer, but creepier one with Johnny Depp).

Before the screening, starting at 5:30 p.m., there also will be movie-themed science station where you can learn about the science of candy, chocolate and more. Special guest Danielle Centeno, co-owner of Escazu Chocolates, will help separate the facts from the sticky fiction following the screening, according to the release.

Tickets are $5 per person. Dinner, drinks (including beer and wine) and popcorn will be on sale before the show. The museum's website has more information.
