RALEIGH, N.C. — Hundreds of people turned out Saturday at the state Capitol to participate in the Raleigh Women's March.

A rally featured women from the Southern Coalition for Social Justice, League of Women Voters, the state chapter of the NAACP and other organizations.

Performances by the NC Theatre, Raging Grannies and V-Day Raleigh also took the stage.

Organizers announced Wednesday that the theme is “women united for justice.”

The march comes after a record number of women were elected to Congress.

Women’s Marches began in 2017 after President Donald Trump was inaugurated.

The third Women’s March in Washington, D.C., was held Jan. 19. An estimated 100,000 protesters attended the march and a daylong rally.
Other marches were held across the nation that day, including Asheville, San Francisco and New York.

The Raleigh Women’s March will be at Halifax Mall from 1 to 4 p.m.
