RALEIGH – If you’re a woman wanting to start up a business, then you might want to consider Raleigh.

The Oak City landed at No.5 among the best cities in the U.S. for female entrepreneurs. It also had the highest average income for females out of the top five states, according to a study by FitSmallBusiness.com.

The study examined several metrics to compile its ranking including market size and buying power, startup environment, quality of life, availability of resources and funding, safety and corporate tax rate. It also looked at cities with metro populations greater than 500,000.

Raleigh rated a 69.9 out of 100, with its “below-average 3 percent corporate tax rate and affordable cost of living” listed among its other advantages.

Austin, Texas, scored the No. 1 spot with a rating of 82.2. Other top cities included San Diego, Dallas and Columbus, OH.

“Location is crucial,” Sarah Wright-Killinger, Fit Small Business’s managing editor, said in a statement. “If you choose one of these Top 5 cities on our list, your business will have access to all the tools in order to make it succeed and flourish.”

The study also named the worst cities for female entrepreneurs. At the bottom: Albuquerque, Detroit
