AUGUSTA, GA (WRDW/WAGT) -- Augusta University says they are closing its daycare after over 30 years of service.

In a letter to parents released Wednesday, AU EVP of Operations, Dr. Karla Leeper, says the facility will close on Aug. 16, 2019.

"Please be assured that this decision was not taken lightly," the letter said. "The Child Care Center has provided high quality, accredited child care to thousands of children since it opened in 1986. Unfortunately, the Center has operated at a loss for more than four years."

Leeper says the school will work with current customers of the facility to "facilitate a smooth transition."
